Frances Karttunen:

PALTIY(A) pret: PALTIX ~ PALTIYAC to get wet, soaked / mojarme (M for first pers. sg. Subject) T consistently has a short vowel in the initial syllable and Z a long one. The initial P is a survival of Proto-Uto-Aztecan *P, and this item is related to PĀC(A) 'to wash something/ PĀT(I) 'to dissolve,' and Ā-TL 'water, liquid.' M also has the variant palti.

PALTI See PALTIY(A).
